One teenage boy was found dead only a few days following being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.
Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.
The inquest heard how his parent received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."
In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.
An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the first place".
News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes generated online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".
The "social media content were really distressing", she stated.
She explained that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.
"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".
Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.
His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".
When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.
In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.
The inquest learned that one young adult urged Kai to kill himself.
She had no worries on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".
She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".
The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.
On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I heard".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's parents' landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.
The proceedings heard his parents said they never got that communication.
Lead investigator told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.
Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.
"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.
"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed while inquiries proceeded."
The official determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
