An adolescent female lion saved from war-torn the war zone has undergone vital oral operation to extract a badly decayed fang resulting from an infection.
Lira arrived at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, England on March 14 following a fundraising effort by director Cam Whitnall, who raised £500,000 to fund her and several other lions from Ukraine.

The surgery was carried out on last week by veterinary dentist Peter Kertesz, who has treated about 450 big cats.
"When I examined the lioness's oral cavity, I could see right away the damaged fang was severely infected," said the dentist.
He thought the dental issue was caused by a trauma sustained over twelve months back, causing bacteria creating toxins within the fang.
"The approach I follow is animal oral health issues need to be treated in the most predictable, the least invasive and most secure manner," he explained.
The expert explained that as Lira did not need to hunt for food, extraction was the most "logical and humane option."

The sanctuary said the extracted tooth was 3.14 inches in length, with the dentist having to extract a pocket of pus from beneath the tooth and seal the significant opening with multiple absorbable stitches.
He additionally conducted a root canal treatment on the corresponding top fang, which was also found to be infected.
Briony Smith, manager at The Big Cat Sanctuary, declared the procedure was a "complete success."
She noted the staff had spotted "a minor swelling on the lioness's face" but it had been impossible to assess "how serious the condition was."
"The lioness will be somewhat sore to begin with, but now that the infectious materials are removed from her system, she will start to feel much better over the next few days," commented the curator.
The successful surgery represents a major milestone in the lioness's healing process after her rescue from Ukraine.
