Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel ran across the track immediately ahead of his car

The dangerous situation happened on the third rotation when marshals were seen on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two guys dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somewhere but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be permitted to just sprint across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the FIA

"On lap three, marshals were informed and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was displayed in that area"

"We are still investigating what happened subsequent to that time"
